Supporting Families on the Essequibo Coast for Over 25 Years
Essequibo Coast, Region 2
Project Summary
For more than 25 years, Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. has supported vulnerable families on the Essequibo Coast, Region #2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) through our Relief Programme, helping households overcome periods of hardship with dignity and care
Working with seven In-Country Partner organisations, we currently support over 500 families in communities including Suddie, Onderneeming, Queenstown, Windsor Castle, Dartmouth, and Mainstay/Whyaka. Families receive essential relief items such as food supplies, clothing, toiletries, and other basic necessities to help meet their immediate needs.
Our approach is rooted in a relief-to-resilience model. Families are supported for as long as needed and gradually transitioned out of the programme once they are able to become self-reliant. As families exit, others in need are enrolled, ensuring continuous and responsive support across the Essequibo Coast.
Through this ongoing cycle of care, we remain committed to strengthening families and building more resilient communities—one household at a time
