Road to Home Ownership

Our Road to Home Ownership continues as four (4) families from Hopetown #40 Village West Coast Berbice, Region #5 benefits from our General Housing Programme.

Under our General Housing Programme, the families receive a 20ft x 16ft wooden two-bedroom house outfitted with a modern flush toilet facility, partially furnished, one two-burner tabletop gas stove, and one solar panel depending on its availability and if the family is not connected to the National Electricity Grid. All houses are constructed with a rain harvesting component which will enable families to store water safely for consumption and domestic purposes.

The housing beneficiaries are Paula James, Garfield Campbell, Jaihallie Itwaru, and Tandy Seecharran. They were chosen following a visit and a needs assessment of the village and region.

At the contract signing Orin Nelson- The Project Associate spoke with the families about good hygiene, the use of the sanitary facility, and caring for the new structure.

During the construction, the housing beneficiaries must participate in Parental Skills Training, Anger Management, Self-care, Domestic Violence, and Child Abuse workshops. Child Link Guyana will facilitate these sessions.

Paula James explained that she is going through a challenging period caring for her mentally ill daughter and grandson. Therefore, being in her own home will bring her immense joy.

Ms. Jaihallie Itwaru was overjoyed to be a beneficiary of a home. She is a single parent of a differently abled daughter and cares for her 81-year-old Mom. She is a cleaner who is attached to the Health Center in Berbice.

Our aim and objective for our housing programme are to eradicate poverty, build sustainable and resilient communities and make families happier and more comfortable across Guyana.

FFTP(Guy) Inc continues to be intentional in the development of Guyana.
