On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Food For The Poor (Guy) Inc collaborated with Partners of the Americas under their Farmer to Farmer Program to boost the capacity of the Central Mahaicony Perth Village Farmers Association. The sessions will be hosted by Kaitlan Mahoney; a US-based volunteer, recruited by Partners of America, and is expected to conclude on February 1, 2023.
During the series of workshops, the farmers will benefit from SWOT analysis, which will better aid them in understanding their strengths, weaknesses and opportunities, organizational structure, roles and responsibilities, leadership, vision plan, and action points on how to achieve long and short-term goals.
At the commencement of the session, featured speaker Kaitlan Mahoney spoke with the farmers and shared the importance of the program and what to expect at the conclusion. She emphasized the importance of being in a farmers’ group as benefits are derived from it. Ms. Mahoney further reiterated that groups fail to succeed because they failed to agree on goals and objectives, poor record keeping, trust, and transparency.
In the end, the farmers shared the same sentiment that the program will be beneficial, as they have already learned new things and are excited to see what more they will learn.
They also praised Food For The Poor (Guy) Inc and Partners of the Americas for this initiative and wished them the best.
The Central Mahaicony Perth Farmers Association is located in Perth, Central Mahaicony, West Coast Berbice Region 5. The group was established in 2007 to support and empower farmers in the area, the group has an average of 30 members.
In 2016 Food For The Poor (GUY) Inc worked with the group to boost their capacity to produce value-added pork and chicken products with the upgrading and furnishing of a small geoprocessing unit. Presently the group can produce for commercial purposes, pork, chicken ham, and pork sausages.
