Food For the Poor (Guy) Inc. has commenced a one-week summer camp with the communities of Mibicuri, Fyrish, and Eversham. The camps are being held between July 31 and August 11, 2023.
Visits were made to Albion Chapel, Eversham Community Developers, and Mibicuri Community Developers. The activity will target one hundred and fifty (150) students from our School Feeding Program.
The camp aims to keep the students engaged while learning several skills, such as arts and crafts (paper craft, tie-dye painting, basket weaving, and candle making) and Spanish lessons (basic greetings). Additionally, a basic health session will also be conducted.
FFTP (Guy) Inc. social worker, Ms. Stacy Parris, taught the children about the rights of the child. Ms. Parris explained that children have the right to health, education, family life, play and recreation, an adequate standard of living, and to be protected from abuse and harm.
Albion Chapel Coordinator, Ms. Sonja Sampson expressed her gratitude to FFTP (Guy) Inc. for rewarding Shelton Joseph, one of their students, with an Amazon Fire 7 Tablet. This reward was given in recognition of his dedication towards the summer program and for securing a spot at Port Mourant Secondary in the recently concluded National Grade Six Assessment. ” I must say thank you for the support you have shown our community over the last twenty-five years,” Sampson shared.
At the Eversham Community Developers summer camp, Ms. Samantha Samuel, a volunteer, noted that the children were excited to be a part of the program, as evidenced by the large turnout. “I want to say thank you to FFTP (Guy) Inc., and I hope that you will continue to participate in this activity with our children in the future,” Samuel expressed.
While at Mibicuri Community Developers, Arts and Crafts teacher Ms. Cassia Munroe has expressed gratitude to FFTP (Guy) Inc. for the impactful work done in the lives of the children.
Through our School Feeding Program FFTP (Guy) Inc. continues to see overall improvement in the well-being and performance of the students.
