In keeping with Education Month and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. has commissioned a library at Lusignan Primary School, Lusignan Village, East Coast Demerara.
The library was established as part of the Lusignan Primary School Upgrading Project and included upgrading of the sanitary facilities for the teachers and students.
The donors for this project are Richard and Carol Verasamy, who are overseas-based Guyanese. Carol attended Lusignan Primary and had a dream about giving back to her old school. Thus, she dedicated the library to the memory of Hilda Persaud, her Mom. Ms. Persaud had many challenges growing up and dedicated her life to ensuring her children received an education and loved reading.
The project is part of FFTP Guyana’s Improved Access to Education Program and was funded by Food for the Poor Canada Inc.
