Donation of agricultural tools to Guyana Prison Service to boost their Agricultural Self-Sufficiency Program

Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc has once again contributed positively to the lives of those incarcerated by donating one hundred and eight (108) units of each of the following simple tools; hoes with handles, pick axes, forks, machetes, shovel squares with handle, spades and triangular files to the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) to boost their Agricultural Self- Sufficiency Program.

According to Mr. Patrick Perry -Chief Prison Officer & Office in Charge of the Agricultural department, the donation will be convenient to the GPS and the Agriculture Sector. The Prison has established a “grow more campaign” with the Agriculture sector expanding- we are aiming toward self-sufficiency”. He further stated that more prisoners will be involved with land preparation and planting of crops because more tools mean more labour force. Therefore, the tools are instrumental in this venture.

CEO Mr. Kent Vincent stated that Agriculture is important in the development of our country, and this donation will help improve the Agricultural works and the programs implemented in prisons across the country. He further stated that FFTP (Guy) Inc will always contribute to a positive impact on the inmates and continues to collaborate with GPS.

Assistant Superintendent- GPS- Mr. Denhart thanked FFTP(Guy) Inc for this timely donation. He further explained that the GPS is transforming and investing more in training inmates in Agriculture to boost the sector.

Tools will be distributed to the Mazaruni, Lusignan, New Amsterdam, and Timehri Prisons.
