Donation to New Amsterdam Prison

The Guyana Prison Service Rehabilitation and Social Integration Effort has a cosmetology program that provides training and employment opportunities for female inmates.
The women are taught several hair care techniques and styling along with nail, foot, and facial care. The services of the salon are also offered to the general public and the inmates are paid for their work. Additionally, every month, the women offer their services free of cost to the elderly in New Amsterdam.

Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. supports the Guyana Prison Service Rehabilitation Program and donated a quantity of hair care products (20 boxes of shampoo, conditioner, and hair treatment) to the New Amsterdam Prison Cosmetology Training and Employment Program at the Prison salon, New Amsterdam, Berbice. The items will be used to enhance the prison’s capacity to successfully execute the cosmetology program which provides training and employment opportunities for female inmates.
Several dumbbells were also donated to the New Amsterdam Prison gym. The gym is utilized by prison officials; however, there is a civil society organization that currently works with female inmates to promote health and wellness through Yoga.

Speaking on behalf of the New Amsterdam Prison was Mr. Kofi David- Officer in Charge, who explained that this donation will contribute to the upgrading of the salon and that he is thankful to Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc for this generous donation.
