FFTP (Guy) Inc. hosted an International Women’s Day Conference

FFTP (Guy) Inc. hosted an International Women’s Day Conference titled “Empowering Women Through Financial Education: For Grass Root Women Farmers” on March 8, 2024, at the St. Francis Community Developers in Port Mourant, Berbice. 

The conference, attended by over thirty grassroots women farmers from regions 5 and 6, emphasized the pivotal role of financial education in empowering women, aligning with the United Nations Women (UN Women) theme for International Women’s Day 2024 – 

“Count Her In Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment.”

The keynote address was delivered by FFTP (Guy) Inc. Administrative Manager, Ms. Serena Knights-Alleyne, who underscored the importance of women’s empowerment and inclusivity. She emphasized that International Women’s Day serves as more than a celebration; it is a call to action to accelerate gender equality. Ms. Knights-Alleyne urged women to support and empower each other, noting that women are the true architects of society. “FFTP (Guy) Inc. is specifically focusing on empowering grassroots women farmers in regions five and six through financial education as we all know; women farmers play a crucial role in our society. FFTP (Guy) Inc. is intentional in its efforts to provide facilitation for the financial empowerment of our women farmers. This conference is designed to address these issues and to address them head on and provide our women with the tools and skills they need to thrive in their community,” Knights-Alleyne expressed.

FFTP (Guy) Inc. Social Worker and Program Coordinator, Ms. Stacy Parris-Jacobs, and Diocesan Project Manager (Migrant Support Project), Ms. Kean Chase, elucidated the concept of financial literacy and its significance for women. They outlined steps to financial literacy and success in agriculture, sharing inspiring stories of resilience and hope to illustrate the transformative impact of financial education on women’s lives.

Breakout sessions at the conference focused on business presentations, providing practical guidance and tools to enhance financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills among participants. Group presentations facilitated collaboration and knowledge sharing, enabling participants to develop strategies for economic empowerment within their communities.
