Food For The Poor (Guy) Inc Donated Industrial Sewing Machines To Six (6) Schools In Georgetown

Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. generously donated industrial sewing machines to six secondary schools in Georgetown, to enhance their Home Economics management programs. The handover ceremony took place at the Festival City Complex, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives in the community.

The six schools that received the industrial sewing machines are Tucville Secondary, South Ruimveldt Secondary, North Ruimveldt Secondary, Lodge Secondary, Brickdam Secondary, and Charlestown Secondary. These machines are intended to bolster each school’s Home Economic Management- Clothing and Textile program, providing students with practical skills and resources for their future endeavors.

CEO Ms. Andrea Benjamin, speaking on behalf of Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. at the ceremony, expressed her honor in collaborating with schools in the community. She outlined the organization’s strategic focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), emphasizing the importance of empowering individuals to capitalize on the country’s rapid development and available opportunities. “We all know the country is rapidly developing, and you need skill-based students to move the country forward and take advantage of the opportunities that are available. So, we are committed not only to working with schools but with communities and families to equip them to empower them so in the long run they can take care of themselves,” she shared.

Gifts-In-Kind Manager Ms. Tabitha Barnwell expressed FFTP (Guy) Inc.’s satisfaction in collaborating with the schools and commended their positive response. She highlighted the importance of instilling a work ethic in students, emphasizing the value of vocational training. Ms. Barnwell thanked the schools for their collaboration and expressed a desire for continued partnership. The teachers of the respective schools expressed their gratitude to Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. for their generous donation, recognizing the invaluable impact it will have on the students’ educational journey.

Outside of the six schools in Georgetown two schools in Region 1, three schools, and one practical center in Region 6 are expected to benefit as well. Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc. remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting educational initiatives that empower students and contribute to their holistic development.
