Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. Donated Tiller, Mosquito Nets to Gibraltar Farmers Group

Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. handed over a 270 CC / 9HP Gasoline Tiller and seventy (70) Mosquito Nets to the Gibraltar Farmers Group at Gibraltar Village, Corentyne Coast, Region 6.

The group comprises forty (40) active members and cultivates cash crops, specifically vegetables. FFTP (Guy) Inc. Project Associate Orin Nelson, addressed the farmers and stated, “FFTP (Guy) Inc. is proud to hand over this tiller and mosquito nets and we are committed to helping the agricultural sector. We are urging the farmers to make optimal use of the tools and nets. The use of the tiller by the group will help enhance crop cultivation. The tiller will also assist the group in preparing the soil, sowing and planting seeds, and applying fertilizers, herbicides, and water. It is a capable machine for performing various operations on the farm.”

Representing the Gibraltar Farmers Group was youth farmer Leanna Thomas, who explained “that the farmers’ group is elated to receive the items. We are thankful to Food For The Poor (Guy) Inc. for these donations, especially the tiller. It will be of great use to the farmers in the association, particularly the women in our group. It will reduce the cost of manual labor used in land preparation”.

This donation is part of Food For the Poor (Guyana) Inc’s Food Security and Livelihood Enhancement Program, which aims to support the development of the agricultural sector in Guyana and the country’s efforts to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 – End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

One of the most important functions of the power tiller is to accurately seed the crop and prepare the soil for planting by incorporating fertilizer into it. It is the best choice for small and medium-scale farmers as it helps to reduce the need for animals and manual labor.
