On Friday, February 10, 2023, Food for The Poor (Guy) Inc hosted a one-day capacity-building workshop with the Potaro Women’s Group. The workshop aimed to strengthen their capacity in the area of organizational development. The workshop focused on preparing a road map for defining the organizational structure, drafting a constitution, group dynamics, and communication.
The facilitators of the workshop were Mr. Kobe Smith -Independent Consultant, Ms. Stacy Parris- Child Link Guyana, Parenting Skills Officer/ Social Worker, Mr. Orin Nelson -Project Associate and Ms. Valini Leitch -Senior Project Officer of Food for The Poor (Guy) Inc.
The facilitators spoke on the importance of Organizational Documentation and Drafting of Constitutions and Policies, organizational structure, the importance of team building, and the functions of each member once elected to serve.
Mrs. Parris touched on the importance of clear and effective communication in the family and groups. She encouraged the women to take the opportunity to be bold and model positive behavior as this will allow them to be better communicators. Ms. Leitch concluded the session with the importance of hygiene, self-care, and creating personal time for themselves which would boost their mental capacity.
Ms. Haimwattie Carbrol, Ms. Shondell Moore, and Ms. Denise Williams, committee members of the Women’s Group thanked Food for the Poor for investing their time in helping the group to understand the dynamics of an organization and the importance of effective communication.
The workshop was held in Bartica, Region 7 at the Mayor’s Office.
Potaro Women’s Group is a young grass root group which aims to promote socio-economic development for women specifically survivors of domestic abuse and they are eager to make a meaningful difference in Region 7.
