Food For The Poor (Guy) Inc Reliefs Yarakita Community As More Than 100 Persons Benefit From Food Distribution

Continuing our goal to provide food relief to the vulnerable, Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc held a public distribution on Monday, February 20, 2023, to residents of Yarakita (Region 1 -Mabaruma Sub District).

Hampers were distributed to fifty (50) migrant families and over one hundred locals. The items disseminated were fifty (50) bags of split pinto beans, twenty (20) bags of rice, ten (10) bags of flour, 1 skid of mana-pack rice, sixteen (16) boxes of Sambucus gummies (Vitamin C), five (5) boxes of slippers, and forty (40) cases of beans.

Presently, there are 220 households; 140 are natives and 80 are migrant Venezuelan Warros. Housing conditions for the migrants are very poor, there is no access to electricity and only about 20% of the population has access to safe water.

Yarakita village is an Indigenous community located in the Mabaruma Sub District, Region One (Barima/Waini). The region is predominantly forested Highland; it is located in the Northwest of the country. 

There are three sub-districts in the region: Mabaruma, Matakai, and Moruca.

FFTP (Guy) Inc continues to do needs assessments in regions across Guyana to assist the most vulnerable.
