Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc and the donors who support our Prison Release Program, paid the fine for one prisoner, allowing him the opportunity to be reunited with his family during the Easter season.
The prisoner was incarcerated for a minor offence (larceny from the person) and his inability to pay the required fines.
At a simple ceremony at the Prison Service Headquarters on Brickdam, Ms. Andrea Benjamin, Chief Executive Officer of FFTP (Guy) Inc. shared that “FFTP mandate and operation is working with the most vulnerable and it is tied into forgiveness, opportunities, growth and development”. She further informed the inmate “that it is a significant day in his life and he is the architect and driver of his life and not to waste the opportunity that he is given; and FFTP is here to offer support to you”
Mr. Kevin Pilgrim, Acting Director of Prisons thanked FFTP(Guy) Inc for their continued support towards making tangible contributions in addressing real needs with the Guyana Prison Service. He also offered words of encouragement to the inmate.
Johnson, 28, expressed gratitude to FFTP(Guy) and thank God for answered prayers.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the inmate was given personal care items, a loaf of bread and a Bible.
