Handover of agricultural tools and small equipment to the Sustainable Livelihood Marketing Producers Cooperation

Today, Food For The Poor (Guy) Inc. handed over a set of simple agricultural tools and small equipment to the Sustainable Livelihood Marketing Producers Cooperation, a farmers’ group located in Linden, Region 10.

The tools consisted of twelve (12) forks, twelve (12) hoes, twelve (12) pickaxes, seven (7) files, and a gasoline-powered garden tiller. The group comprises 13 active members and cultivates cash crops, specifically vegetables, on 3 acres of land. There is also a shade house utilized for cultivating leafy vegetables and herbs.

Speaking on behalf of the Sustainable Livelihood Marketing Producers Cooperation was member, Cleveland Tappin who stated, “We want to thank FFTP (Guy) Inc. for this donation and the contribution to assist the farmers. This donation will help increase our production in Linden and enhance the food production and food security.”

This donation is part of Food For the Poor (Guyana) Inc’s Food Security and Livelihood Enhancement Program, which aims to support the development of the agricultural sector in Guyana and the country’s efforts to achieve United Nations Sustainable Goal 2 – End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

The use of these items by the group will help to enhance crop production and improve food security in Region 10, which is known as a non-traditional agricultural area.
