World Water Day 2023 “Accelerating Change to Solve the Water and Sanitation Crisis”

As we observe World Water Day, under the theme, “Accelerating Change to Solve the Water and Sanitation Crisis”, Food for The Poor (Guy) Inc continues to play a vital role in providing access to safe water to communities across the country.

We will highlight two (2) of our Water Projects in Hauraruni Village and Tobago Hill.

The Hauraruni Village distribution system was built to accommodate only 15 families. Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc upgraded the Water system in this community, with the expansion of primary and secondary lines to allow households to have direct access to water (in their yard). Seventy families benefited along with the primary school, clinic, and Hauraruni Girls Home.

In Tobago Hill Village, Mabaruma Sub District, Region 1, a new community water trestle was constructed to store and distribute water. Thirty-two (32) households benefited from rain harvesting systems (guttering for their homes, 450-gallon water tanks with fittings, wooden trestles), 5-gallon storage jars, and buckets to store their water.

The rain harvesting system at Tobago Hill Primary school was also upgraded.

Hence, the impact FFTP(Guy) Inc. is making in the communities of Guyana, ties into United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #6- “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all” by 2030 and the Government of Guyana’s goal to “Ensure 90 percent of our population receives treated water by 2025.

FFTP (Guy) Inc. continues to play a vital role in the transformation of communities and the lives of disadvantaged families, individuals and in the overall development of Guyana.
